corresponding μ-CH2 compounds, which were separated into the two geometrical isomers. The cobalt complex (Ph3P)2Co2(CO)6 gives (Ph3P)Co(CO)3CH3. The role played by the presence of terminal carbonyl groups seems to rule out a direct reduction of μ-CO group to methylene group, but the reaction offers a new and rapid route to μ-methylene compounds.
