  Synthetically useful 1,3-dithiol-2-ylphosphonate esters 3 can be prepared in one step, and in good yield (up to 75%), from the corresponding 1,3-dithiole-2-thiones 1, simply by heating in the presence of a trialkyl phosphite at high dilution.
