The syntheses, IR, Raman and Si-29 spectra of the title compounds are reported. SiSi force constants, calculated with the aid of normal coordinate analyses, are compared with Si-29 Si-29 coupling constants.
Base catalysed hydrogenation of methylbromooligosilanes with trialkylstannanes, identification of the first methylbromohydrogenoligosilanes

The Lewis base catalysed hydrogenation of methylchlorooligsilanes with trialkylstannanes can also be applied to the hydrogenation of methylbromooligosilanes. In this way methylbromohydrogenoligosilanes were prepared for the first time. Methylbromotrisilanes with an > SiBrMe middle group (e.g. SiBrMe(2)-SiBrMe-SiBrMe(2)) are hydrogenated first at this silicon atom under formation of an > SiHMe group (e.g. SiBrMe(2)-SiHMe-SiBrMe(2)). Brominated silanes containing a quarternary Si(Si)(4) unit (e.g. Si(SiBrMe(2))(4)) do not react with trialkylstannanes.

The series of α,ω-dibromopermethylpolysilanes, Br(SiMe2)nBr, (n = 2−6) has been prepared by the action of bromine on dodecamethylcyclohexasilane. The mass spectra of these compounds, of the corresponding chlorine compounds Cl(SiMe2)nCl (n = 2−6), and of the 1-chloropermethylpolysilanes Cl(SiMe2)Me (n = 2, 3, 4, 6) have been recorded at 14 and 70 eV. Synthesis of α,ω-dihalopermethyloligosilanes and silane-siloxane copolymers

alpha,omega-Dibromopermethyloligosilanes, Br(SiMe2)(n)Br (n = 2-4, 6), were prepared by the reaction of dodecamethylcyclohexasilane with bromine. The reaction of (Me2Si)(6) with MCl4 (M = Sn, Ti) proceeds with the cleavage of Si-Si- and Si-C-bonds with the formation of alpha,omega-dichloropermethyloligosilanes, CI(SiMe2)(n)Cl (n = 2-4, 6), and chloro derivatives of cyclohexasilane, ClmSi6Me12-m (m = 1, 2). Silane-siloxane copolymers of regular structure were obtained by heterofunctional copolycondensation of alpha,omega-dihalopermethyloligosilanes with 1,5-dihydroxyhexamethyltrisiloxane.
Conformational Control of Polysilanes: Use of CH<sub>2</sub> Spacers in the Silicon Backbone
By the reaction of a number of oligosilyl potassium compounds with (trimethylsilyl)chloromethane, derivatives containing the (trimethylsilyl)methyl substituent were prepared. Using X-ray single-crystal structure analysis and UV spectroscopy the conformational properties of some of the compounds were studied. It was found that the (trimethylsilyl)methylated examples exhibit UV absorption properties which correspond to lower energy transitions in comparison to those of analogous trimethyl-silylated molecules. The influence of this effect decreases, however, with increasing chain lengths.
