The synthesis and antimalarial activity of 22 3-substituted 1-naphthalenemethanols whose substitution was patterned after the antimalarial 2-substituted 4-quinolinemethanols are described. The compounds were active against Plasmodium berghei in mice, the most active being 6-chloro-alpha-(dibutylaminomethyl)-3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1-naphthalenemethanol hydrochloride (3b).
