  -Methylthiophthalimide undergoes photochemical cycloaddition reactions with diphenylacetylene, hex-3-yne and bis(methylthio)acetylene to form spiro-thietes; in solution the spiro-thiete from the bis(methylthio)alkyne is in equilibrium with its ring-opened isomer.
