Carbometallation of 1,4-bis(trimethylsilyl)-1,3-butadiyne with trimethylaluminium in the presence of a bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride or bis(cyclopentadienyl)titanium dichloride catalyst afforded (E)-2-methyl-1,4-bis(trimethylsilyl)-1-buten-3-yne selectively after aqueous workup.
