  [EN] Ophthalmic pharmaceutical compositions useful in controlling elevated intraocular pressure associated with glaucoma and ocular hypertension are described. The compositions comprise a combination of a beta-blocker and a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor to reduce the production of aqueous humor, preferably formulated as a suspension having a pH between about 6.8 and about 7.8. These compositions may additionally contain a mucomimetic anionic polymer and/or a finely-divided drug carrier substrate to provide sustained release. A method of controlling elevated intraocular pressure with these compositions is also described.
  [FR] L'invention concerne des compositions pharmaceutiques ophtalmologiques utiles pour lutter contre la pression intra-oculaire élevée associée au glaucome et à l'hypertension oculaire. Ces compositions comprennent une combinaison d'un béta-bloquant et d'un inhibiteur de l'anhydrase carbonique afin de limiter la production d'humeur aqueuse. De préférence, elles sont formulées sous forme de suspension d'un pH variant d'environ 6,8 à environ 7,8 et elles peuvent contenir en plus un polymère anionique mucomimétique et/ou un substrat porteur de médicament finement divisé afin d'offrir une libération prolongée. L'invention concerne également un procédé permettant de lutter contre la pression intra-oculaire élevée à l'aide de ces compositions.
