Lutetium trichloride reacts with trimethylsilylmethyllithium in ether under formation of [Li(Et2O)4][Lu(CH2SiMe3)4], which decomposes slowly losing SiMe4 and yielding Li[Lu(CH2SiMe3)2(CHSiMe3]. Neutral Er(CH2SiMe3)(CHSiMe3) is isolated from the decomposition of Er(CH2SiMe3)3·(THF)2 in pentane.
