  1) α- and β-Naphthylazobenzene and their twenty-four derivatives with a substituent on a benzene ring have been synthesized by the reactions of Grignard reagents with zinc chloride double salts of diazonium salts. Twenty-one of them are new compounds.2) Six naphthylazobenzoic acids have been prepared by the hydrolysis of the corresponding ethyl esters; five of them are new compounds.3) The ultraviolet and visible absorption spectra of these naphthylazobenzene derivatives have been measured.
