  Novel 8-substituted pyrrolizidines having the formula: (wherein R is a C1-C10 hydrocarbon group, a lower aliphatic carboxyl group esterified with a lower alcohol, a lower aliphatic carboxyl group amidated with a C5-C13 primary or secondary amine, a C2-C14 lower alkyl group which has a hydroxyl group and has optionally aryl substituents, a lower alkyl group which has a hydroxyl group esterified with a C2-C16 carboxylic acid or etherified with a C2-C13 alkohol, a lower alkyl group which has a primary amino group or a C1-C14 mono- or di-substituted amino group, or a lower alkyl bearing a C2-C10 acyl group) and quaternary ammonium salts thereof. These compounds have pharmacological activities such as spasmolytic activity on the smooth muscle of guinea pig ileum.

  Patients susceptible to or suffering from conditions and disorders, such as central nervous system disorders, are treated by administering to a patient in need thereof aryl olefinic azacyclic compounds and aryl acetylenic azacylic compounds, including pyridyl olefinic cycloalkylamines and pyridyl acetylenic cycloalkylamines.
