Fluorescence quenching of EB–DNA complex by a novel di-bipyridyl ruthenium(II) complex of p-tert-butyltetrathiacalix[4]arene

A six-coordinated Ru(II) complex of [(bPY)(2)Ru(S,O-H2L)] (.) 1.5CH(3)CN, where H4L is a p-tert-butyltetrathiacalix[4]arene, was synthesized and characterized by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and X-ray crystallographic analysis. Fluorescence quenching of ethidium bromide-DNA complex by the Ru(II) complex obeys linear Stern-Volmer equation. The quenching was realized via the DNA-mediated electron transfer from the excited ethidium. to the Ru(II) complex. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
