  The acid catalysed elimination of 1,2-diaryl-4-dimethylamino-3-methylbutan-2-ols results in the exclusive formation of corresponding but-1-enes. Treatment of the 2-chlorobutanes derived from the 1,2-diphenyl and 2-phenyl-1-o-tolyl-butanols gives mixtures of fragmentation products (3-methyl-1,2-diarylprop-2-enes) and corresponding but-1- and but-2-enes.
