[reaction: see text] Highly efficient rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric addition of arylboronicacids to aldehydes has been realized by using chiral spiro monophosphite ligands, affording diarylmethanols in excellent yields and good enantiomeric excesses.

[reaction: see text] New monodentate phosphite ligands have been developed from axially chiral biphenols, which show excellent enantioselectivity in the Rh(I)-catalyzed hydrogenation of dimethyl itaconate. The newchiralligand system is suitable to create libraries and possesses fine-tuning capability.

The dismutation ofarylene phosphorodiamidites derived from the simplest phenols and naphthols and of their dibasic analogs was studied. The main regular trends of this process and the limits of its synthetic applicability were determined.
