The structure and thermal behavior of silver perfluorocarboxylates (AgCO2(CF2)nCF3, n = 10, 12, 14, and 16) have been investigated by using various analytical tools. A method for producing a thermoplastic resin composition containing ultrafine particles on an industrial scale is provided. The method for producing the thermoplastic resin composition containing ultrafine particles includes mixing a metal-containing organic compound with a thermoplastic resin; and then heating the resulting mixture at a temperature of not lower than the decomposition starting temperature and lower than the complete decomposition temperature of the metal-containing organic compound to produce a composition containing ultrafine metal particles and/or ultrafine metal oxide particles having a number-average particle size of 0.1 to 80 nm dispersed in the thermoplastic resin.
