  Novel α-vinyl-α-aminoacids having the formula wherein R has the signification given in the description and R1 is H or C1-C18 alkyl, e.g. the compounds of the formulas and are prepared e.g. by treating a derivative of the formula with a strong base and an alkylating agent, followec by hydrolysis. The novel aminoacids are useful for treating hypertension, as gastric secretion inhibitors, antihistamine antiallergics and antitumor agents. Furthermore, they exhibit enzyme inhibition.
