  Synthesis of a linear (1-->5)-beta-D-galactofuranan was accomplished by trityl-cyanoethylidene polycondensation. On 10-fold reduction in the monomer concentration, the condensation products are cyclic oligosaccharides; the formation of 1,5-anhydro-alpha-D-galactofuranose was also demonstrated.
