  Partially fluorinated aryltrisilanes FnSi3Ar8-n, FnHmSi3Ar8-n-m or FnClHmSi3Ar7-n-m (Ar = phenyl and/or p-tolyl) have been synthesized from Ph(3)SiSiPh(2)SiPh(3), Ph(3)SiSiClHSiPh(3), p-Tol(3)SiSiPh(2)SiPh(3), p-Tol(3)SiSiPh(2)Sip-Tol(3) and Ph(3)SiSip-Tol(2)SiPh(3) by applying combinations of the reaction sequences CF3SO3H/LiX (X = F, Cl) or CF3SO3H/LiAlH4. The trifluoromethanesulfonyloxy-substituted trisilanes used as intermediates have been identified with Si-29 NMR spectroscopy. The title compounds have been characterized with IR and Si-29 NMR spectroscopy as well as with elemental analyses.

  Halogenated trisilanes XnSi3H8-n with X = Cl, Br, I and n = 2-7 as well as the tetrasilanes H2XSiSiX2SiX2SiX2H have been prepared by dearylation of appropriate aryltrisilanes and aryltetrasilanes (aryl = phenyl, p-tolyl) with either liquid or gaseous hydrogen halides.
