The CrCu molecule has been formed in a solid krpton matrix at 4 °K by codepositing Cr and Cu atom beams. Isotopically enriched Cr 65Cu was also trapped. X-band ESR spectra indicated that the molecule has a 6Σ ground state with a small zero-field splitting D = −0.007(5) cm−1. Other derived magnetic parameters are g⊥ = 2.0030(10), A⊥(63Cu) = 856(9), A∥(63Cu) = 631 (60), and ‖eqQ(63Cu)‖ = 310(120) MHz. The relatively large quadrupole coupling constant is compared with that in other copper-containing molecules and in other transition-metal diatomics.
