Specifically, it relates to a method for the manufacture of [γ18O3]ATP or [γ18O3]GTP comprising the steps of contacting succinyl CoA synthetase with ADP or GDP and a [P18O4]3" containing salt under conditions which allow for conversion of ADP into [Y18O3]ATP or GDP into [Y18O3]GTP and obtaining such [γ18O3]ATP or [γ18O3]GTP. Moreover, the invention encompasses the use of [γ18O3]ATP or [γ18O3]GTP for labeling polypeptides and polynucleotides.
