    Rose oxide (2-(2'-methyl-1'-propenyl) -4-methyltetrahydropyran) is an important olfactive compound valuable in the art of perfumery and can be produced from citronellol by a variety of synthetic routes. Known routes, however, suffer various disadvantages, such as use of dangerous materials or high temperatures and unsatisfactory yields. The invention provides a novel synthetic route comprising the steps of:- (1) anodic alkoxylation of citronellol using as a supporting electrolyte an alkali metal aromatic sulfonate; (2) dealkoxylation of the resulting 2,6-dimethyl-3- elkoxyoct -1-en-8-ol in the presence of a palladium or nickel complex; and (3) cyclization of the resulting dehydrocitronellol in the presence of an acid. High yields of rose oxide can be obtained by this route without the need to employ high temperatures or materials that are difficult to handle.

    Disclosed is an ink composition comprising an aqueous liquid vehicle and pigment particles having attached to the surfaces thereof a polymerized vinyl aromatic salt. In one embodiment, the polymeric vinyl aromatic salt is chemically grafted to the surfaces of the pigment particles; in another embodiment, the polymeric vinyl aromatic salt is adsorbed onto the surfaces of the pigment particles. Preferably, the modified pigment particles have an average particle diameter of less than about 1 micron. The ink composition is suitable for applications such as ink jet printing processes, particularly thermal ink jet printing processes. Images generated with ink compositions of the present invention are sharp, waterfast, lightfast, and of high optical density, exhibiting no feathering, and can be electrically conductive.

    A styrene-butadiene copolymer having excellent low hysteresis loss characteristic, wet skid resistance, fracture characteristics, and abrasion resistance and a rubber composition comprising the copolymer are provided. The styrene-butadiene copolymer has a total styrene content in the range of 33 to 42 % by weight of the styrene-butadiene copolymer; a content of styrene sequences having 4 to 20 styrene units in the range of 40 to 65 % by weight of the total styrene content, as obtained by measurements by NMR and GPC; a content of styrene sequences having more than 20 styrene units in the range of 5 % by weight or less of the total styrene content, as obtained by measurement by GPC; a content of vinyl unit in the range of 30 % by mol or less of a butadiene part of the styrene-butadiene copolymer; a sum of the total styrene value and 1/2 of the content of vinyl units in the range of 46 to 52 %; and an inner or end structure having, for example, tin-carbon bond. The copolymer and the rubber composition are used for tire treads and the like.

    There is provided a heavy duty tire made by using as a tread rubber a rubber composition obtained by compounding 100 parts by mass of a rubber component consisting of 90-30% by mass of (a) natural rubber and 10-70% by mass of (b) a solution-polymerized styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber containing tin in at least one of a middle of a polymer molecular chain and a terminal of the molecular chain and having a bound styrene content of 28-45% by mass and a vinyl bond content in a butadiene portion of less than 30 mol% with 40-60 parts by mass in total of (c) carbon black and (d) silica, provided that an amount of (d) silica as a filler is 5-20 parts by mass. In the heavy duty tire, the resistance to uneven wear is considerably improved without damaging the heat buildup and wear resistance.

    The present invention relates to an infusion preparation which is useful for neurodegenerative diseases, which comprises (2R)-2-propyloctanoic acid or a salt thereof and a basic metal ion which is supplied from a metal salt or a metal hydroxide of weak acid, preferably about 1 to about 5 equivalents of a basic metal ion based on 1 equivalent of (2R)-2-propyloctanoic acid or a salt thereof, and optionally further comprises other infusion components. The infusion preparation of the present invention is has a pH appropriate for intravenous administration, and is useful for intravenous administration since it does not require any preparative operation such as dissolution, dilution or the like at the time of use.
