A copper‐catalyzedthree‐component (arenes, iodohydrocarbon, and sulfur powder) synthesis of substituted aryl sulfides has been developed. Water is used as the green solvent in a simple and environmentally friendly procedure. Various functional groups attached to the substrates were well tolerated in this process to afford the corresponding products in moderate to good yields.

An efficient TBATB mediated debenzylative cross coupling of aryl benzylsulfides with electron rich compounds provides diaryl sulfides in moderate to excellent yield. The salient features of the present protocol are simplicity, high efficiency and compatibility of the reaction with various electron rich compounds.
The present invention relates to novel compositions, comprising a repellent and an additive, where the additive is selected from the group consisting of phenol, benzaldehyde, benzoic acid or derivatives thereof and is present in a ratio of from 10:100 to 200:100% by weight to the repellent, and to their use for repelling crawling harmful insects, in particular ants or cockroaches.
The AgNO3-mediated in situ scission of aromatic disulfides in the presence of electron-rich aromatic compounds results in the efficient synthesis of diaryl sulfides. Key features of this new methodology are high yields of aromatic and heteroaromatic sulfides, mild reaction conditions, simplicity, simple workup, and avoiding foul-smelling reactants like thiols.
