  Water-soluble monoazo dyes of the general formula X - SO₂ - A - N = N - W - - CO - NH - Z - SO₂ - Y       (1) wherein: X and Y are independently selected from vinyl, β-thiosulfatoethyl, β-bromoethyl, β-acetyloxyethyl, β-hydroxyethyl, β-phosphatoethyl, β-methylsulfonyloxyethyl, β-phenoxyethyl, β-sulfatoethyl, β-chlorethyl, β-phenylsulfonyloxy-ethyl and a group of the formula -CH₂-CH₂-NR¹R², in which R¹ and R² are independently selected from hydrogen, lower alkyl and sulfo-substituted lower alkyl; R is hydrogen, lower alkyl or sulfo-substituted lower alkyl; A is a phenylene or naphthylene radical optionally substituted with hydroxy, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, carboxy or sulfo; W is a phenylene or naphthylene radical optionally substituted with carboxy, sulfo, amino, carbamoyl unsubstituted or substituted, sulfamoyl unsubstituted or substituted, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, hydroxy or halogen; Z is a phenylene radical optionally substituted with halogen, lower alkoxy or lower alkyl; and the copper, chromium, cobalt and nickel metallized complex-dyes of said metal-free dyestuffs. These novel dyes yield on cellulose textiles dyeings with high tinctorial strength and purity of shade and with good light and wash fastnesses, particularly a good chlorine wash fastness. They are particularly useful in high temperature dyeing operations and can be prepared into stable aqueous solutions for use in continous dyeing operations. They provide a full range of shades and exhibit superior color yield and leveling in chemical pad steaming dyeing. They build strongly with superior fixation and have superior stability in acidic and alkaline environments.

  A method for separating hydrocarbons and naphthenic acid from an aqueous mixture containing the same by passing the mixture through a spiral wound element to produce a permeate stream and concentrate stream wherein the concentrate stream has a relatively higher concentration of hydrocarbons than the permeate stream, wherein the spiral wound element includes a composite poly amide membrane comprising a porous support and a thin film poly amide layer, wherein the membrane is characterized by having: i) a NaCl rejection and a benzene tetra carboxylic acid rejection of at least 98% when tested with an aqueous solution containing 2000 ppm NaCl and 100 ppm benzene tetra carboxylic acid at 25° C., pH 8 and ImPa (150 psi); and ii) a dissociated carboxylate content of at least 0.3 moles/kg of polyamide at pH 9.5 as measured by Rutherford Backscattering (RBS).
