    Accelerated optical holographic recording using bis-DNO
    摘要:
    The design, synthesis and optical holographic recording properties of bis-DNO are reported. Bis-DNO is composed of two identical azobenzene oligoornithine segments (DNO) connected via a dipeptide linker. The two segments were assembled in a parallel fashion at the two amino groups of the dipeptide linker by Merrifield synthesis. Surprisingly, the response time of films of bis-DNOs was found to be much faster than that of their linear counterparts. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

    Disclosed is a novel photo-responsive liquid crystal composition in which an oriented state of a liquid crystalline compound is capable of being controlled by an irradiation of light. The photo-responsive liquid crystal composition is composed of a liquid crystalline compound and a gelling agent mixed with the liquid crystalline compound to form a gelling mixture, wherein the liquid crystalline compound is capable of being controlled in a state orientated in one direction by the irradiation of light. In the photo-responsive liquid crystal composition, the liquid crystalline compound is oriented in a direction parallel to the direction of the irradiation of light. In the photo-responsive liquid crystal composition, the gelling agent is formed of a compound having an azobenzene structural part and a specific skeletal structure.

    (EN) The invention relates to novel monodisperse or polydisperse compounds, in general named DNO (diamino acid N$g(a)-substituted oligopeptides), preferably low molecular weight polypeptides, e.g., based on ornithine, lysine, diaminobutyric acid, diaminopropionic acid, aminoethylglycine or other amino acids or peptides having azobenzenes or other physically functional groups, e.g., photoresponsive groups, as side chains. These compounds may be synthesised using solid phase peptide synthesis techniques. Materials, e.g. thin films, comprising such compounds may be used for optical storage of information (holographic data storage), nonlinear optics (NLO), as photoconductors, photonic band-gap materials, electrically conducting materials, electroluminescent materials, piezo-electric materials, pyroelectric materials, magnetic materials, ferromagnetic materials, ferroelectric materials, photorefractive materials, or materials in which light-induced conformational changes can be produced. Optical anisotropy may reversibly be generated with polarized laser light whereby a hologram is formed. First order diffraction efficiencies of up to around 80 % have been obtained.(FR) L'invention porte sur de nouveaux composés monodispersés ou polydispersés, appelés généralement oligopeptides de diamino acide substitués en N$g(a) (DNO), de préférence des polypeptides de faible poids moléculaire, par exemple, à base d'ornithine, de lysine, d'acide diaminobutyrique, d'acide diaminopropionique, d'aminoéthylglycine ou d'autres acides aminés ou peptides ayant comme chaînes latérales des azobenzènes ou d'autres groupes à fonctionnalités physiques, comme par exemple, des groupes photosensibles.
