    Excited State Dynamics of Organo-Lanthanide Electroluminescent Phosphors:  The Properties of Tb(tb-pmp)3 and Gd(tb-pmp)3
    摘要:
    The excitation energy transfer rates between the excited states of a Tb(III) complex containing the ligand 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-(trimethylacetyl)pyrazol-4-one, are described. Energy transfer rate constants are derived from time-gated and time-correlated single photon counting measurements. Comparison with the analogous Gd(III) complex shows that there is efficient intramolecular energy transfer from a singlet state of the ligand to excited terbium f-electron states. There is no evidence of bi-exciton annihilation in these materials, even at very high exciton densities. The use of this complex as the active medium for electroluminescent device applications is addressed. We note the particular properties of the ligand which make it suitable for this application and suggest possible improvements.

    Photoluminescent compounds are described having no-ligand. These have formula (I) in which Ln represents a lanthanide ion, each of X, Y, and Z, which may be the same or different, represents hydrogne, an optionally substituted aromatic group or an optionally substituted aliphatic or cycloaliphatic group, such that at least one of X, Y and Z represents a said aromatic group which is conjugated with the pyrazolone ring system and such that when X or Y represents a said group, said group can optionally be attached via a hetero atom. These compounds possess useful electroluminescent properties such that they can be used in electroluminescent devices.

    An electroluminescent composition is provided comprising: (a) a compound of the general chemical formula (I): wherein M is lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, caesium, beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, barium, copper, silver, gold, zinc, boron, aluminum, gallium, indium, germanium, tin, antimony, lead, manganese, iron, ruthenium, osmium, cobalt, rhodium, iridium, nickel, palladium, platinum, cadmium or chromium; n is the valence of M; and R 1 , R 2 and R 3 can be the same or different, and are selected from hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic group, a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic, heterocyclic or polycyclic ring structure, a fluorocarbon, a halogen or a nitrile group; and (b) a suitable dopant. The composition may be used in forming electroluminescent devices.
