Synthesis of oligo(p-phenylene–vinylene–thienylene)s as potential red light-emitting materials

Several potential red light-emitting oligomers containing alkoxylated phenylene–vinylene–thienylene backbones with and without cyano groups at the olefin moieties have been designed and synthesized. The influences of the skeleton as well as the position of the cyano groups in the vinylene moiety to the absorption and emission spectra of these new oligomers are also discussed.

Disclosed are substituted heteroarylalkanoic acids acids of the following formula D-A-C(O)R′, where D, A, and R′ are defined herein. These compounds are useful in the treatment of chronic complications arising from diabetes mellitus. Also disclosed are pharmaceutical compositions containing the compounds and methods of treatment employing the compounds, as well as methods for their synthesis.
This invention provides semiconductive conjugated polymers incorporating electron-withdrawing groups for use in electroluminescent devices, methods for their manufacture, and electroluminescent devices incorporating the polymers. The electron-withdrawing group is conjugatively linked to the polymer chain and is selected so that the polymer exhibits electroluminesence upon application of an electric field to a layer thereof.
