    A product and the use thereof to stimulate and/or modulate immune response in animals and humans, comprising lipids having a glycerol backbone carrying at least one alkyl or acyl chain, wherein the lipid is phospholipid, glycolipid or neutral lipid, saturated or unsaturated, and the number of carbon atoms in the hydrocarbon tails lies between (10 and 22) inclusive, the lipids being defined as esters of glycerol (propane 1,2,3-triol) with fatty acids, also including 1,2-di-O-acylglycerol joined at oxygen (3) by a glycosidic linkage to a carbohydrate, also derivatives of glycerol in which one hydroxy group, commonly but not necessarly primary, is esterified with fatty acids, and execluding those organic compounds consisting of a trisaccharide repeating unit with oligosaccharide side chains and acyl or amine linked fatty acids.

    The present disclosure concerns modified lipid compounds and their use in the formation of lipid assemblies. Specifically are disclosed lipid assemblies comprising (a) an amphoteric lipid comprising in covalent association with (i) one or more acyl chains; (ii) one or more weak base moiety; (iii) one or more weak acid moiety; the lipid assembly also comprising (b) one or more additional lipids, at least one of which being a zwitterionic lipid. In some embodiments, the amphoteric lipid is a compound comprising (a) a tri-functional moiety; (b) two non-phosphate lipid chains associated with two of the functional moieties of said tri-functional moiety; (c) optionally a spacer moiety associated with the third of the functional moieties of said tri-functional moiety; and (d) a polyalkylamine optionally comprising a short peptide with one to several carboxylic acid residues. Also disclosed are the uses of the lipid assembly, inter alia, for transfection or cancer treatment.

    Cosmetic compositions comprising calcium citrate and at least one N-acylated aminoalcohol according to formula (I). Provided is a method of treating aged skin, comprising topically applying to the aged skin a composition comprising a compound of Formula (I) in an amount effective to provide an anti-ageing effect. The compound of Formula (I) is used to prevent skin and/or to help to maintain or improve moisture retention and/or to fight against the signs of skin ageing. The N-acylated aminoalcohol of formula (I) acts as a ceramidase inhibitor. The combination of at least one compound of formula (I) and calcium citrate stimulates keratinocyte differentiation.

    The present disclosure provides processes for the preparation of lipid conjugated cyclic carbonate derivatives. More specifically, the present disclosure is based on the finding that reacting lipids, such as, ceramides, with N,N′-disuccinimidyl derivative, resulted in the formation of, isolatable, substituted cyclic [1,3]-dioxan-2-one and [1,3]-dioxan-2-thione compounds. These isolatable cyclic substituted compounds and derivatives thereof may be used for various applications, such as in vaccination.

    A method for producing glycoconjugate, which comprises the steps of: (i) binding a sugar residue to the side chain of a water-soluble polymer via a linker having a selectively cleavable linkage to give a primer, and bringing said primer into contact with an immobilized glycosyltransferase in the presence of a sugar nucleotide, to transfer a sugar residue of said sugar nucleotide to the sugar residue of said primer, (ii) elongating a sugar chain by transfer of plural sugar residues by repeating the step (i) at least once, (iii) removing, where necessary, a by-produced nucleotide or an unreacted sugar nucleotide, and (iv) repeating the steps (i)-(iii) where necessary and releasing the glycoconjugate by selectively cleaving the cleavable linkage in the linker, from the above-mentioned primer connecting the sugar chain elongated by the transfer of plural sugar residues, and a method for producing a sphingoglycolipid.
