  This invention is directed generally to proteinase (also known as “protease”) inhibitors, and, more particularly, to piperidinyl- and piperazinyl-sulfonylmethyl hydroxamic acids that, inter alia, inhibit matrix metalloproteinase (also known as “matrix metalloprotease” or “MMP”) activity and/or aggrecanase activity.
