An efficient rhodium-catalyzed regioselective C-N bond formation of azo compounds in good to excellent yields through C-H bond functionalization using azides as the nitrogen source was developed. Alkyl, aryl, and sulfonyl azides could be efficiently assembled in this reaction with excellent functional group tolerance.
Palladium-Catalyzed Direct <i>Ortho</i>-Nitration of Azoarenes Using NO<sub>2</sub> as Nitro Source

A palladium-catalyzed direct ortho-nitration reaction of azoarenes was developed in which NO2 was used as both nitro source and oxidant for the first time. The nitration products were converted into o-aminoazoarenes or benzotriazole derivatives by a simple reduction.
