A new sulfur dioxide-based organic chemistry has been developed as a novel approach for the stereoselective synthesis of polyene fragments based on our one-pot, four-component synthesis of polyfunctional epsilon-alkanesulfonyl-gamma,delta-unsaturated ketones.
