6-tetramethylpiperidide, TMP, has long played a key role in synthesis, here combined with an unsaturated dihydropyridine unit, 2-tBuC5H5N, both contribute to the stability of a series of alkali metal aluminate structures by engaging in non-covalent interactions with alkali metal cations, the extent of which depends on the alkali metal.
