Fmoc-protected altritol nucleoside phosphoramidite building blocks with adenine, guanine, thymine, uracil, cytosine and 5-methylcytosine as bases have been synthesized. These building blocks were used for the synthesis of altritol nucleic acid (ANA) and chimeric ANA-RNA oligonucleotides.
