Octakis-(dimethylphosphanoethyl)-octasilsesquioxane–synthesis, characterization and reactivity

The addition of HPMe2 to the vinyl-T-8 silsesquioxane quantitatively yields the novel octakis-(dimethylphosphanoethyl)-octasilsesquioxane (1) which can easily be converted into the thio-derivative (Me2P(S)CH2CH2)(8)Si8O12 (2) via mild oxidation with sulfur in CS2. Reaction of 1 with transition metal complexes such as W(CO)(5)THF, CpMn(CO)(3) or Cp*Rh(CO)(2) offers an interesting synthetic access to supramolecular organometallic compounds.
