Diazabicyclo (2,2,2) octadiones having the formula:
wherein R1-R6 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, and ethyl.
A method for synthesizing the compounds shown above is also disclosed and consists essentially of:
A. reacting a compound having the formula:
wherein R and R' are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl or cyclo alkyl having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and R1-R6 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, and ethyl, with
B. a reactant selected from the group consisting of ammonia and primary amines having the formula R2-NH2 wherein R2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, and ethyl.

Disclosed are diazabicyclo (2,2,2) octadiones having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 -R.sub.6 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, and ethyl. A method for synthesizing the compounds shown above is also disclosed and consists essentially of: A. reacting a compound having the formula: ##STR2## wherein R and R' are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl or cyclo alkyl having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and R.sub.1 -R.sub.6 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, and ethyl, with B. a reactant selected from the group consisting of ammonia and primary amines having the formula R.sub.2 -NH.sub.2 wherein R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, and ethyl. The disclosed compounds can be used as starting materials for preparing the corresponding octanes which octanes exhibit useful biological activity, particularly as blood pressure depressants.
