Hydrosilylation of alkynes R3MC≡CH (M = Si, Ge) afforded adducts whose subsequent treatment with ethynylmagnesium bromide gives polyunsaturated silanes and germanes R3MCH=CHSi(C≡CH)3. The latter can be subjected to the same transfomations to result in the unsaturated chain growth.
