Thin-layer chromatographic separation technique has been employed for the separation of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Pb(II), and Cd(II) as their 3-methyl-1-phenyl-4-thiobenzoyl-5-pyrazolone (SBMPP) chelates. Metal chelates are intensely coloured and so no additional reagent was needed for the development of spots. Silica gel G was used as an adsorbent in the form of thin layer coating (0.25 mm)
