The reaction of NdI3(thf)(x) (x = 3.5) with 3 equiv of KP(SiMe(3))(2) in tetrahydrofuran has been studied. The X-ray crystal structure determination of Nd[P(SiMe(3))(2)]3-(thf)(2), the first tris(phosphido) complex of the lanthanide element neodymium, is reported. The molecular structure features the pentacoordinate neodymium atom in a slightly distorted trigonal-bipyramidal environment with the phosphido ligands in equatorial and the thf molecules in axial positions.
