Synthesis and structure of free and complexed cyclopentadienyl selanes

Substitution of cyclopentadiene by one to three Me(3)Si or t-Bu groups allows the formation of mono- and biscyclopentadienylmono-, di-, and triselanes. [(Me(3)Si)(3)C(5)H(2)](2)Se(2) is the first biscyclopentadienyldiselane characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal structures are also presented to show that such compounds can function as ligands via selenium or the cyclopentadienyl moieties. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
