The new complexes [R2HGeGeR2Fe(η5-C5)(CO)2] (R Et or Ph) were prepared by a substitution reaction from the corresponding arylhalohydrodigermanes and the iron salt. Their characterization by IR, 1H and 13C NMR and mass spectroscopy is reported. Photolysis of each complex affords transient monohydrogermylcomplexes [R2HGeFe(η-C5H5(CO)2] and dialkylgermylenes which are trapped by 3,5-di-tert-butylorthoquinone
