The organic electroluminescent device of the present invention includes a substrate, an anode, an organic layer, and a cathode, the anode, the organic layer, and the cathode being laminated on the substrate, in which the organic layer contains the organic electroluminescent device material. The organic electroluminescent device material is suitable as a host material for a light-emitting layer containing a phosphorescent light-emitting dopant. In the formula, L represents an aromatic group including at least one aromatic heterocyclic group, and Ar1 to Ar4 each represent an aromatic group.
