1,1′,3,3′-Tetrakis- and 1,1′,2,2′,4,4′-hexakis(trimethylsilyl)cobaltocenium ions have been prepared by oxidation of the corresponding cobaltocene derivatives Co[η5-C5H5−n(SiMe3)n]2 (n = 2, 3) and isolated as their hexafluorophosphates. Variable-temperature 1H NMR spectroscopy reveals that ringrotation of the five-membered rings is hindered in solution.
