    A lubricating oil composition comprising a major amount of at least one lubricating base oil, from 0.05 to 5 % by weight of at least one zinc dithiophosphate, and from 0.01 to 10 % by weight of at least one unsaturated aliphatic alcohol of from 16 to 24 carbon atoms, the weight ratio of the unsaturated aliphatic alcohol to the zinc dithiophosphate being from 0.1 to 10, has excellent thermostability and oxidation stability and has excellent effect in improving load carrying capacity and wear resistance.

    Disclosed herein is an additive for lubricating oil which comprises a zinc dithiophosphate, a compound having at least one hydroxyl group and carbon-carbon double bond in a molecule thereof and cuprous oxide. Also disclosed herein a lubricating oil composition which comprises a base oil for lubricating oil and the above-mentioned additive for lubricating oil. The aforementioned additive is particularly effective for improving color change to black, sludge formation, stability a against oxidation and anti-wear property for zinc dithiophosphate (ZnDTP)-compounded lubricating oil composition.

    A used lubricating oil comprising lube oil additives, including zinc dithiophosphate is subjected to reclaiming. Zinc dithiophosphate is thermally decomposed at a temperature of 400°F (204°C) to 1000°F (538°C) for a residence time of 10 to 120 minutes. The resulting oil is subjected to vacuum distillation. A zinc-free (i.e. ash free by ASTM D-482) distillate oil is useful as marine diesel fuel. About 5 to 25 vol % is recovered as a metal containing bottoms product, useful as asphalt extender. The process is carried out in the absence of chemical demetallizing.

    An internal combustion engine lubricating oil composition adapted for used with a maintenance-free system of engine and having excellent properties including oxidation stability, resistance against sludge formation and ability to clean the engine. The composition is characterized in that it comprises ingredients (A) through (D) below as essential components on the basis of total amount of composition and the total base number of the composition is between 2.0 and 6.0 mgKOH/g: (A) a specific alkaline earth metal type cleaning agent, (B) zinc dialkyldithiophosphate expressed by a specific general formula (1), (C) a succinic acid imide type ashless dispersant and (D) a phenol type and/or amine type ashless antioxidant.

    The lubricating oil composition of the present invention comprises a base oil that contains at least one selected from the group consisting of a mineral oil and a synthetic oil, has a viscosity index of 120 or more, and has a paraffin content by ring analysis of 70% or more; a dispersant (A) containing one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of an alkenylsuccinimide, a boronated alkenylsuccinimide, an alkylsuccinimide and a boronated alkylsuccinimide; and a molybdenum dithiocarbamate (B); wherein the component (A) is contained in an amount of from 0.01% by mass to 0.10% by mass in terms of the nitrogen content thereof based on the total amount of the composition, one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of a boronated alkenylsuccinimide and a boronated alkylsuccinimide in the component (A) are contained in an amount of from 0.05% by mass to 3.5% by mass based on the total amount of the composition, the phosphorus content is from 100 ppm by mass to 1200 ppm by mass, the sulfated ash content is 1.2% by mass or less, and the molybdenum content is from 300 ppm by mass to 1000 ppm by mass. Accordingly, even when used in automobile internal combustion engines capable of increasing the thermal and mechanical durability temperature thereof more than before and capable of realizing power increase and fuel efficiency, the lubricating oil composition can prevent engine performance degradation and therefore can satisfy both the requirements of engine performance and engine durability.
