    A series of 1- (2, 3, 4-trimethoxybenzyl) piperazine (trimetazidine) derivatives were prepared and tested for cerebral vasodilating activity. Almost all the compounds possess stronger activity than trimetazidine and among them, the γ-amino tertiary alcohols 6e-j exhibit potent cerebral vasodilating activities which are superior to those of cinnarizine and papaverine. Moreover, these compounds show a selective vasodilating effect on vertebral arteries.

    Analogs of 1-[ (3-alkyl-3-hydroxy-3-phenyl) propyl]-4- (2, 3, 4-trimethoxybenzyl) piperazine (1) were prepared and tested for cerebral vasodilating activity. It was found that the potency depends positively on the number of methoxyl groups on the benzyl moiety, and the homopiperazine analogs seem to be equipotent to the corresponding piperazines. From the standpoints of potency and ease of synthesis, 8k was selected for further study. Further analogs, which have various substituents in place of the benzyl moiety of 8k, were prepared and tested for cerebral vasodilating activity. These analogs were less potent than 8k. It was suggested that the benzyl moiety of 8k plays an important role in the high cerebral vasodilating activity.

  • Micellar extraction of the lanthanide ions from acidic media

    A procedure of micellar extraction of the lanthanide ions (La, Gd, and Lu) from nitric acid media based on the use of novel phosphine oxide derivatives is developed. In the micellar extraction, complexes of the lanthanide ions with the extractant in the ratio of 1 : 2 (metal : extractant) form. The dependence of the selectivity of extraction on the length of hydrophobic radicals attached to the P=O group was shown. The conditions of the selective micellar extraction in the series La > Gd > Lu with the use of an extractant containing octyl substituents at the P=O group were found.

    A polyolefin having superior particle properties such as an extremely high bulk density, a large average particle diameter and a narrow particle size distribution, and having a narrow molecular weight distribution, is obtained in high yield, by polymerizing an olefin, using a catalyst comprising a solid catalyst component and an organometailic compound, the solid catalyst component being obtained by reacting a) a silicon oxide and/or an aluminum oxide, the reaction product of an organomagnesium compound and a compound of the general formula Me(OR)nXz - n and a titanium compound, in the presence of ROH, and further reacting the resulting reaction product with a compound of the general formula AlRqX3 - q.
