[Solution] An antibacterial agent that contains as an active component a resin having an organic group represented by general formula (I-1). (In the formula (I-1), R 1 and R 2 mutually independently represent a C 1 -C 4 fluoroalkyl group. “C” and “A” are bonded to each other through a covalent bond or an ionic bond, and “A” represents a hydrogen atom or a cation.)

    Novel perfluorinated sulfonyl monomers and polymers and membranes made therefrom are provided. The fluorocarbon monomers have the general formula: ##STR1## wherein X is CH or N, I is H, K, Na, or a Group I or II metal, R.sub.f is one or more fluorocarbon group, including fluorocarbon ethers and/or sulfonyl groups and/or perfluoro-non-oxy acid groups, R.sub.f, is C.sub.n F.sub.2n+1 (n=0,1,2, . . .), Y is C.sub.n F.sub.2n+1 (n=0,1,2, . . .) and m is 0 or 1. The monomers are made from the non-oxy superacid groups ##STR2## Copolymers of the above monomers with other monomeric material such as tetrafluoroethylene are also provided. These copolymers may then be cast into ionomer membranes and other structures for use in electrochemical processing.

    Disclosed are a solid electrolyte membrane for fuel cells, which is characterized by that there has been used a silicone resin obtained by subjecting a methide series siloxane compound having a specific, strong acid bis(perfluoroalkanesulfonyl)methide moiety, a specific polysiloxane compound, and a specific silane compound to a cross-linking reaction, and its production process. This membrane has heat resistance, is superior in chemical stability, has a good proton conductivity even under a low water content condition, and has a low methanol permeability.

    Disclosed is a proton conducting polymer membrane formed by laminating a plurality of solid electrolyte membranes. This proton conducting polymer membrane is one prepared by laminating at least one layer of a solid electrolyte membrane formed by using a resin having a bis(perfluoroalkanesulfonyl)methide group in the chemical structure. This solid electrolyte membrane has a superior proton conductivity without transmitting the fuel (methanol or hydrogen).
