Radical C−C bond-forming reactions at self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) can be used for the modification of alkene terminated Si wafers under neutral conditions. Many functional groups are tolerated under radical conditions and biologically interesting molecules such as biotin can be immobilized via this approach.

Intermolecular Radical Addition and Addition/Cyclization Reactions of Alkoxyamines onto Nonactivated Alkenes
prepared from commercially available starting materials, undergo efficient thermal radical carboaminoxylations onto various nonactivated alkenes to provide 1,4-functionalized malonates B in good to excellent yields. The experiments are very easy to conduct. The carboaminoxylations can be combined with radicalcyclization and fragmentation processes.
