Abstract Aluminium alkoxides are shown to prominently influence the selectivity of reactions involving a single electron transfer (SET) stage. Triethylgermyllithium (I) reacts with amides R2NC(O)X (II) (X = Cl, OMe, NMe2, Ph) by a mechanism which includes a free-radical stage.
