The preparation of some unsymmetricaltetrathiafulvalenes and the electricalconductivities of their charge transfer complexes with tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) are described; the ethylenedithio(trimethylene)tetrathiafulvalene–TCNQ complex exhibited higher conductivity than complexes of tetrathiafulvalene, tetramethyltetrathia-fulvalene, and hexamethylenetetrathiafulvalene with TCNQ.

A new synthesis of someunsymmetrical tetrathiafulvalene molecules using electrochemical methods is described; ethylenedithio(dimethyl)tetrathiafulvalene and (ethylenedithio)benzotetrathiafulvalene have been obtained and their radical-cation salts prepared by electrocrystallization.
The scope and limitations of the synthesis of unsymmetrically substituted TTF derivatives via the “phosphonate way” was investigated using as precursors 1,3-dithiol-2-yl-phosphonates and 1,3-dithiol-2-yliden iminium salts with various substitutents on the dithiole cycles.
