The tin(II) or lead(II) alkyl MR2 reacts with [FeCp(CO)2(X)] to form the insertion product [FeCp(CO)2M(X)R2}] [R CH(SiMe3)2, Cp η5-C5H5; M Sn and X I (1), Br (2), or Cl (3); or M Pb and X I (4)]. The iodide 1 or bromide 2 undergoes nucleophilic substitution at tin upon treatment with NaOMe, K[BHEt3], or [NBu4n]F supported on silica gel, to yield [FeCp(CO)2Sn(OMe)R2}] (6), [FeCp(CO)2Sn(H)R2}]

Silylmethyl and related complexes VIII. Bis[bis(trimethyl)silylmethyl]manganese(II): Its synthesis, properties, and crystal structures of its tetrahydrofuran and bis(dimethylphosphino)ethane adducts

2.19(2) [MnP 2.775(4)] Å, CMnC′ 160.1(9) [141.4(7)], OMnC 100.0(6)° [PMnC 98.7(4) and 112.1(3), and PMnP′ 74.4(1)°]. Compound 1 is also a monomer in n-C5H12. Its magnetic behaviour is consistent with high spin Mn(II), and its EPR spectrum (like that of 2) at ambient temperature in THF showed a broad singlet (gav = 2.005 for 1). Bis[bis(trimethylsiiyl)methyl]tin, SnR2, has an extensive chemistry, behaving as (i) a Lewis base, (ii) a Lewis acid, or (iii) undergoing oxidative addition (insertion reactions). The following complexes have been isolated, many as well characterised crystals.
