    Small molecule calpain modulator compounds, including their pharmaceutically acceptable salts, can be included in pharmaceutical compositions. The compounds can be useful in inhibiting calpain, or competitive binding with calpastatin, by contacting them with CAPN1, CAPN2, and/or CAPN9 enzymes residing inside a subject. The compounds and composition can also be administered to a subject in order to treat a fibrotic disease or a secondary disease state or condition of a fibrotic disease.

    Increasing the solids content of an aqueous dispersoid of: (a) a resin having aliphatic backbone carbons; (b) addition polymer, and (c) graft polymer consisting of addition polymer grafted to the aliphatic carbon atoms of said resin; which comprises bringing together ethylenically unsaturated monomer, initiator, and such dispersoid, and polymerizing the such monomer in situ. Preferred products produced are water-reducible epoxy resin-based. These are produced by a process which comprises initiating addition polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of such dispersoid.

    In order to provide a general-purpose aqueous primer composition requiring no organic solvent and capable of improving adhesive strength and durability while ensuring an adequate application life required for the work of primer coating process, a primer composition according to the present invention contains (a) a modified polyisocyanate obtained by reaction of polyisocyanate; an emulsifying agent having an active hydrogen group reactable to an isocyanate group; and a silane coupling agent having an active hydrogen group reactable to an isocyanate group and (b) a core shell emulsion having a core layer of a rubbery polymer and a shell layer of a glassy polymer and having an active hydrogen group reactable to an isocyanate group in the core layer and/or the shell layer.

    A three-dimensional smart polymer matrix is formed by a first epoxy chemical reaction linking a linear polymer chain and a branched polymer chain, wherein the polymer chains are flexible and one or more reactive molecule species remain unreacted, at a predetermined mathematical ratio of reacted to un-reacted molecules and molecule species, and the un-reacted molecular species are available for further chemical reaction, protonation or deprotonation after the first chemical reaction. The resulting smart polymer matrix is hydrophilic and non-soluble to a solvent or electrolyte.
