Reactivity of furylhydroperoxides in asymmetric oxidation and kinetic resolution

Furylhydroperoxides can be successfully employed in the enantioselective oxidation of allylic alcohols and sulfides under Sharpless-type conditions. Their kinetic resolution provides a mean both to chiral furylhydroperoxides and furylalcohols. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
Furylhydroperoxides are accessible by three different methodologies. In the enzymatic approach, lypoxygenase is employed on non lipid-like substrates. Transitionmetalcatalyzedepoxidation of allylic alcohols is strongly dependent on the structure of the involved hydroperoxide.
