give the corresponding thiirans in good yields in acid-catalyzed reactions in aproticsolvents. Effects of catalysts, solvents, and alkyl substituents of 1 were examined. Activity of the acid catalysts depended on their acidity (pKa), and the strong Lewis acid BF3·OEt2 also had high catalytic activity. Effects of solvents and alkyl substituents of 1 were little observed.

A series of 1-substituted taurines, including optically active taurines, were synthesized expeditiously from epoxides via episulfidation with potassium sulfocyanate, ring-opening with dibenzylamine, followed by oxidation with performic acid, and hydrogenolysis in the presence of palladium hydroxide on carbon powder. This method was also used for the synthesis of trans-cyclic taurines.

We report the oxyalkynylation of thiiranes and thietanes using ethynylbenziodoxolonereagents (EBXs) to readily access functionalized building blocks bearing an alkynyl, a benzoate, and an iodide group. The reaction proceeds with high atom efficiency most likely through an alkynyl-episulfonium intermediate. The transformation is copper-catalyzed and compatible with a large array of thiiranes and thietanes

A catalyst-free, high-yielding conversion of oxiranes into thiiranes has efficiently been carried out by treatment with KSCN or thiourea at room temperature using polyethyleneglycol (PEG-400) as the reaction medium.

2-disubstituted cis-oxiranes via an intimate ion-pair mechanism. The current method provides a direct and simple strategy in efficient preparation of 3-acyl-5,6-dihydro-1,4-oxathiines and 2-acyl-5,6-dihydro-1,4-dioxines, important agents in medicinal and agricultural chemistry, from readily available thiiranes and oxiranes, respectively.
